Ethernet in the First Mile

Ethernet is the First Mile (EFM) is a new cost-effective, reliable, and high speed internet service using copper instead of fibre. Due to the design and formation of multiple copper pairs, there is built in fail-safe measures utilising copper pairs decreasing downtime, disconnections and interrupted connections.

Continuity, Efficiency and Effectiveness in Business

EFM offers a stable, secure and responsive connection with upload and download speeds of up to 20Mbps. Due to the design and installation, EFM guarantees little disruption, easy connectivity and reliability.

Affordable, yet Reliable

Leasing fibre cables compared to using a reliable EFM network will significantly increase the price. EFM is not only the cheapest options, it is also the most reliable option due to bundles of copper pairs providing fail-safes. The price also allows over 60% in savings whilst providing the same benefits as a fibre leased line.

Fail Safe

EFM can come over 2 or 4 copper pairs. Because connectivity, reliability and productivity is important, there’s an automatic fail-safe in place. In the rare occurrence of a copper pair failing, the EFM will automatically use the other copper pair so connectivity remains active.

How it works

  1. First, a Dual or Quad service is installed into the building. The connection speed for both download and upload are identical. However, there is an option for a managed router which will give more control.
  2. Then, an EFM card is installed into the exchange. If an EFM card has already been installed, the lead time is reduced.
  3. Finally, the line is connected to the network giving control of how the network is established. Either through an Internet Access circuit, or as part of an MPLS IPVPN.
